Step-parenting
Teens
-
Discipline is a teaching tool to help the adolescent learn a lesson that
we feel is important
-
Expect conflict
-
Do not give disciplinary responsibility to the step-parent
-
Try to understand why something happened through the eyes of the
adolescent
-
The biological and the step-parent should come to an agreement before
rules are presented to the adolescent
-
Honestly tell your teenager when you were wrong and why you think you made
the mistake

Question:
What’s the difference between parenting and discipline?
Answer: Parenting has to do with things like nurturing,
transmitting values, giving encouragement, maintaining appropriate
boundaries in the family and setting limits on children’s behavior. Discipline
has to do with enforcing consequences when values, boundaries and
limits are not observed.
