Healthy Driving Strategies: Dealing with Road Rage

As
a driver, it’s easy to get angry…
“Road rage” can
be an unwelcome, but defining moment in the lives of many of us.
How drivers handle Road Rage has a big impact on how we fare on the
highway, both today and tomorrow.
Drivers with
“road
rage” experience high levels of stress but demonstrate a lack of
coping skills to deal with it. When
drivers explained why they became violent the
reasons they gave were often incredibly trivial: “She wouldn’t let
me pass,” “They kept
tailgating me,” or, as one driver accused of murder explained, “He
practically ran me off the road—what was I supposed to do?”
The
latest AAA Foundation study found that men
and women of all ages and walks
of life can develop “road rage” if they are in the wrong mood or
circumstances.
